About
What is this?
I built Japanese Conjugation Practice because I wanted a fast, focused way to drill verb and adjective forms — without the clutter of a full study app. Get a word, conjugate it, move on.
What it covers
The app currently includes words from all five JLPT levels (N5–N1), covering three word categories:
- Verbs (ichidan, godan, and irregular)
- い-adjectives
- な-adjectives
Each word can be practiced across a range of conjugation forms including te-form, negative, past, polite, potential, passive, causative, conditional, volitional, and more.
Note: JLPT does not publish official vocabulary lists. The levels used here are based on widely used community word lists and may not exactly match the current exam content.
How to use it
Open the practice page and start answering. Use the settings (gear icon in the header) to customize your session:
- Script — show words in kanji with furigana, or hiragana only
- Answer mode — multiple choice or free text input
- JLPT level — filter words by level
- Word types — focus on verbs, い-adjectives, な-adjectives, or any combination
- Conjugation forms — choose which forms to practice
- Voice — select a Japanese voice for audio playback, or enable auto-speak to hear the answer after each question
Your settings are saved in your browser so they persist between sessions.
Stats and streaks
The app tracks your progress: total questions answered, overall accuracy, per-form accuracy, daily practice streaks, and your best answer streak. You can also set an optional daily goal — a small progress ring in the header shows how many answers you have given today and celebrates when you hit your target. Stats are stored on your device by default and can be reset at any time from the settings.
Cloud sync
You can optionally sign in with Google or Apple to back up your settings and stats to the cloud. Your data is preserved even if you clear your browser, switch browsers, or use a different device. Sync is entirely opt-in — without it, the app works fully offline with all data stored locally. See our privacy policy for details on how synced data is handled.
Works offline
The app is a Progressive Web App (PWA). After your first visit, it works offline — useful for practicing on the go without an internet connection. You can also install it to your home screen on mobile.
Free and open
The app is completely free and always will be. Accounts are optional and only needed for cloud sync. If you have feedback, suggestions, or find a bug, feel free to get in touch. If you'd like to support the project, consider making a donation.
