Privacy Policy

Overview

Japanese Conjugation Practice (japaneseconjugation.app) is a free language learning tool. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

The short version: Accounts are optional, we only store data on our servers if you opt into cloud sync, and we do not sell your information to anyone.

Data we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the app is used. This collects anonymized data such as:

• Pages visited and time spent
• General geographic region (country/city level)
• Device type, browser, and operating system
• Referral source (how you found the app)

Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish between visitors. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally. You can opt out by using a browser extension such as Google Analytics Opt-out, or by enabling your browser's Do Not Track setting.

Local storage

We store your practice settings (theme, script, answer mode, JLPT levels, word types, conjugation forms, voice, auto-speak, and daily goal) and your practice stats (questions answered, accuracy, and streaks) in your browser's local storage. By default, this data stays entirely on your device.

Cloud sync (optional)

You can optionally sign in with Google or Apple to back up your settings and stats to the cloud. If you enable sync:

• Your practice settings (excluding device-specific preferences like theme and voice) and stats are stored on Cloudflare's servers using Cloudflare Workers KV.
• Your data is identified by an opaque user ID from your sign-in provider. We do not store your name, email address, or profile picture on our servers.
• Resetting your stats from the Settings panel also clears your synced data from the server. You can sign out at any time to stop syncing.

If you do not sign in, the app works entirely locally with no data transmitted to any server (beyond analytics as described above).

Service worker

The app uses a service worker to cache pages for offline use. All cached data is stored locally on your device.

Data we do not collect

We do not:

• Require user accounts or registration (sync is optional)
• Store names, email addresses, or personal information on our servers
• Sell or share data with third parties (beyond Google Analytics as described above)

Hosting

This app is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process technical data such as your IP address to deliver the app to you. This is standard for any website and is governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

This site contains affiliate links. If you click a link to a third-party service and sign up, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only link to services we genuinely recommend.

Children's privacy

This app does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we do not collect personal data, no special provisions are necessary under COPPA or similar regulations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
